Like the rest of our population, I have struggled with negative thoughts, emotional emptiness, and depressive energy. I tried medication, exercise, and psychological counselling; they helped, but only on a temporary basis. It has taken me a solid 21 years to find my balance and my contentment. When I look back on the one tool that really saved me, I can say with complete honesty that it was automatic writing.
What exactly is automatic writing?
It’s a form of meditation that allows our minds the space to express its truth without the ego jumping in to self-protect. It is literally the process that connects the unconscious parts of the mind and heart with the conscious part that you use and recognize on a personal level. To me it bypasses the ‘lies we tell ourselves’ so that we can dig deep into the truth of our soul.
There are two forms of automatic writing I use. The first deals with Self. This can be done through simple journaling; writing whatever comes to you, or following a reflection questionnaire that triggers certain memories within ourselves. As you write, the walls of the ego come down and the mind integrates what is true, giving the heart room to surface the emotions that we hold down or overlook. The act of writing gives your conscious mind a task to focus on making it easier for the unconscious to bring to light whatever is being ignored. This writing is very therapeutic because the suppression of our emotions and our realities is what is causing the increase in challenges within our mental and physical health. Over time the mind finds comfort in the ability to express the thoughts that are piling up. By allowing time to sort through the many thoughts our minds produce, we begin to see that many are unnecessary, repetitive or outdated. We can begin to ‘let go’ of those that no longer serve a concrete purpose in our current lives.
The second form of automatic writing focuses on our spiritual connection. This style allows us the ability to connect with people or beings that are not physically present here on earth. I started doing this when I was a child whenever I became overwhelmed with situations in my life. I would write to Jesus for advice. I would write “Jesus, what do I do? What do I need to know?” Which resulted in a flourish of unconscious writing flying across the empty pages. I would be writing so fast that my conscious mind couldn’t keep up and eventually it learned to just turn offwhile my unconscious mind and Jesus connected. The result was a peace and contentment that to this day continues to carry me through the darkest moments of my life.
Overtime the negative voices inside your mind are replaced with authentic positive ones. The heart and mind find harmony as guidance and support is given from above and your spiritual connection is strengthened. As my relationship strengthened with Jesus, I began connecting to angels. From there it moved up to the Archangels, and then the Ascended Masters. My intuition while doing Intuitive Readings and as a Medium skyrocketed as did my ability to discern the different energies, my intuitive gifts all flourished.
Once you can connect to receive the divine support-a contentment enters your life, because you are able to receive that extra bit of help. As your relationships and intuition evolve the writing gets replaced by a quiet conversation. You begin to feel the connection at the unconscious level. The significance of this is huge! Your unconscious mind, that part of you that used to react with fear and negativity, now can respond with positivity and affirmation. The anxiety dissolves and the mind can find comfort within itself.
Starting Automatic Writing for Spiritual Connection
Begin by choosing with whom you want to connect. (if you are uncertain- ask a guide to come forward)
Sit down in a comfortable space. Allow quiet, instrumental music to play in the background
Center yourself by taking several deep breaths
On your sheet of paper write, “Dear _________, what do you need to tell me?” and then write whatever comes to you. If your mind questions it, that’s OK. Explain what you are doing to yourself but continue writing. Whether it’s a word or two or three pages- allow whatever comes up. When you are done, read it over and see if it resonates.
For people that need support- you can also follow along with a guided mediation. Try out the ‘Guide Meditation’ at www.directconnections.ca. Give yourself time to practice and you will see how naturally it flows!
